  1. I freely and voluntarily consent to participate in the pilot of the Freelance Adviser app which is being launched and tested by Dr Holly Patrick-Thomson, Prof Alistair Lawson and Dr Paul Lapok, staff members at Edinburgh Napier University.
  2. The broad goal of this pilot study is to test a prototype of the Freelance Adviser app which gathers, aggregates and provides peer advice to freelancers working in the Creative Industries. Taking part means that I can create a profile, ask questions through the app and provide responses to others' queries. The test period will run for 3 weeks in January/February 2026.
  3. The data I input into the app will be used to test the functionality of the system and generate a database of queries and responses. I may opt in to having individual queries submitted to a local large language model to receive an AI-generated response. The LLM is stored and run on a local ENU server and no data will be shared outside of the University.
  4. My responses will be anonymised, and my name will not be linked with the research materials, and I will not be identified or identifiable in any report subsequently produced by the researcher.
  5. I understand that any of my personal data collected will be handled under the principles of Data Protection Legislation. This means by law that the researcher must process, use and destroy any of my personal data appropriately according to the legislation.
  6. I also understand that if at any time during the pilot study I feel unable or unwilling to continue, I can withdraw my consent. That is, my participation in this study is completely voluntary, and I may withdraw from it at any time. However, after data has been anonymised or after publication of results it will not be possible for my data to be removed as it would be untraceable at this point.
  7. I understand that the incentive voucher provided as part of this test is awarded at the end of the trial to those who have completed the trial. Successful completion means interacting with the app over the 3 weeks of the test, uploading a minimum of 3 queries and responses per week, and completing the pre- and post-test short surveys.
  8. I understand that I may contact the researchers by email (h.patrick@napier.ac.uk) with any questions, or that I may submit a problem report via the app to disclose any issues I am having.
